Dr Marc Ribó, interventional neurologist at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona, principal investigator of the Stroke Research Group at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) and Chief Medical Officer of aptaTargets, has won the 2022 SEN Stroke Award in the Scientific Category from the Spanish Society of Neurology.
The award was received jointly with Dr Natalia Pérez de la Ossa, head of the Stroke Unit at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital and head of the Stroke Action Plan of the Government of Catalonia, in recognition of their work as the principal investigators and coordinators of the RACECAT clinical trial. RACECAT is a groundbreaking study in the entire world that has evaluated the best direct healthcare protocol in the treatment of patients with acute stroke, the results of which have been published in the prestigious medical journal JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association).
After the collaborative experience of RACECAT and the promising results of the neuroprotective drug ApTOLL developed by aptaTargets, another pioneering study will start this year entitled RaceToll, with the goal of evaluating the administration of this medication to suspected stroke patients during the ambulance ride.
The SEN Awards are given each year by the executive committee of the Spanish Society of Neurology, at the proposal of the different study groups and members, to individuals and institutions that have contributed to scientific progress or to social outreach regarding neurological diseases.
The awards ceremony was held on 8 June in the Miramar Palace in San Sebastián.
